March 25th 2008: Good Morning riseandshine.tv/2008/03/25/good-morning/

What can be said about the mistreatment of the vulnerable by the powerful? Take a deep breath and hang onto your conscience…

This song is based on news that as little as 20% of Afghan Aid reaches the needy, the rest going on wages and expenses for western workers.

It is sung from the perspective of the man who has no choice but to leave his family because it has become the only option for him to prevent them starving.

Thanks to Seth Eagelfeld and Randell Fever for their contributions with ideas and fingers.

lyrics

Good morning, my sister, face turned to the sun
starving for the sins of men, nothing you have done
Good morning my brother, now it's time to go to school
they teach you well - in this living hell, there ain't no choice at all

Now, how you make your money is the measure of a man
And when there isn't any, it's a curse upon the land
And the devil is among us, and the flames that he has fanned
Flare up to feed the hungry - anger's all they understand

Oh Good Morning my sister, face turned to the sun
starving for the sins of men, nothing you have done
Oh Good Morning my brother it's time to go to school
they teach you well - in this living hell, there ain't no choice at all

The way my father raised me I can tell right from wrong
and i know this land is crazy, but it's where I belong
and if i take the money that rich men trickle down
so small and so infrequently, in poverty we drown

Oh Good Morning my sister, face turned to the sun
starving for the sins of men, nothing you have done
oh Good Morning my brother it's time to go to school
they teach you well - in this living hell, there ain't no choice at all

They say there are good people in countries far from here
they send us food and money, bullets, pain and fear
but the food won't feed a baby, and the cash don't get to us
and so to feed my family, I'm stepping on that bus

Oh good morning my sister, face turned to the sun
starving for the sins of men, nothing you have done
Oh good morning my brother it's time to go to school
They teach you well - in this living hell, there ain't no choice at all

The luxury of choices, the pleasure of the giving
and death is never welcome but it serves to feed the living
and life it can be cheapened, whole neighbourhoods erased
and nations reduced to rubble, but democracy is saved

Oh good morning my sister, face turned to the sun
starving for the sins of men, nothing you have done
Oh good morning my brother it's time to go to school
They teach you well - in this living hell, there ain't no choice at all
