This song was written in an hour on Christmas Eve, 2008. It originates from Peebles, a small town on the Border of England and Scotland, where local residents mistook a science experiment for UFOs. Instead of aliens trying to land, the lights were flying lanterns carrying letters to Santa which had been set off by local man Iain Weir in an attempt to educate his daughter Ellie.
lyrics
Aliens are landing
Bright lights are in the sky
Heard it on the radio
Must be a UFO
Aliens are landing
Shepherds and the three kings
Lanterns for Santa
It's all the local banter
Educating Ellie
Her festivities
Become a mystery
Hot air balloons she flies
Into the night sky
E.T. publicity
Ellie's understanding
Lapland landing
Watch her wishes drift away
Bringing presents on Christmas day
A lot of fuss and bother
Ellie's grandmother
Heard it on the radio
Where did those balloons go?
Educating Ellie
Her festivities
Become a mystery
Hot air balloons she flies
Into the night sky
E.T. publicity
