The day after the big storm which swept out of the Atlantic and across Britain and Europe saw the return of Dan Brittain to the Rise and Shine songwriters’ den, to co-write Sin Anew, based on news from the Vatican who have updated their list of mortal sins.
This marvellously tongue-in-cheek song is a conversation between a man who sincerely wants to do the right thing, and a priest explaining the modern mortal pitfalls that are now available to him.
lyrics
"Forgive me, oh my Father
I've forgotten how to sin
It's been ten long years now
Won't you tell me where to begin?"
He said "I'm glad you've come to see me
You're a fine, upstanding man
And I know you've fallen back
But we can restore you to God's plan..."
"Violate, yes violate the Rights of all Mankind
Experimentally leave your morality behind
Pollute this fair world until the rivers run black
Then grow a coat of pink ears upon a monkey's back
You may think you're doing fine, assume you're doing well,
But the church has seven brand new ways to get you into Hell..."
"Please forgive me, oh my Father
I've forgotten how to sin
It's been ten long years now
Won't you tell me where to begin?"
"Drive up prices, divert all the funds
From the poor to your door, and leave them just crumbs... "
